Endometriosis and Bioflavonoids

As we mentioned in previous articles, endometriosis growing somewhere else other than the endometrium also reacts to hormonal signals of the monthly menstrual cycle by building up tissue, breaking it, and eliminating it through the menstrual period. As we know, nutritional supplements play a very important role in some cultures in treating all kinds of diseases. In this article, we will discuss how bioflavonoids help to treat endometriosis.

I. Definition
Bioflavonoids are a class of plant of secondary metabolism. They act as antioxidants and raise the levels of reduced glutathione ( GSH) and vitamin C. It is best known for their ability in treating cancer and heart disease. You can find bioflavonoids in plants with yellow, red or blue colors.

II. How bioflavonoids affect women with endometriosis.
It is important to take bioflavonoids together with vitamin C for maximum absorption and preventing the oxidation of vitamin C.
1. Circulatory system
Bioflavonoids contain high amounts of epicatechin which helps to strengthen the arterial wall fighting against harmful substances that cause the thickening of the arterial wall resulting in increasing the blood flow in the body, decreasing the risk of heart diseases and over active uterine muscles causing menstrual cramps

2. Abnormal bleeding
Besides helping to make arteries more elastic for blood circulation, they also help to protect the breaking off of small veins in the abdomen and other regions of the body which reduce the blood loss for women with endometriosis during menstruation.

3. Inflammation
Bioflavonoids also play an important role in deactivating the enzymes that cause inflammation, thus reducing the risk of endometriosis implants and adhesion.

4. Immune system
Bioflavonoids contain polyphenols which is essential to fight against abnormal forming of free radicals, endometrial implants and adhesion, as well as cancers. They also contain quercetin which is necessary for enhancing vitamin C antioxidant activities, strengthening the immune system even further.

Since endometriosis is treatable and manageable by natural remedies and a self help course, if you have endometroisis, please look on the bright side.
